  • Remove the fast idle control . First pull the gas tank. You should not follow my directions, but rather have a service manual to follow along with.
  • Slide the grip and warmer out. The wires need to be loosened down below
  • Make a note of how it goes together. Screws come out to free the control. An angle screwdriver is helpful.
  • without the screw the lever slides up and off
  • It goes back together easy too.
  • you should have these parts in the tray when you get the cable end loose
  • Mainly you just need to loosen up the cable on the fast idle so the cable can slide down when you pull the Bowden box out the other side
  • out comes the cable end

  • unhook the cable from the keeper and cut any wire ties that bind

  • throttle cable is loosened and removed from the handlebar . On the 1150 GS you need to remove the enclosure, as it gets replaced with a new "repair" kit that fits the new cable elbow end thing
  • remember how the adjuster was set so you can approximate the same setting with the new cable prior to sync;ing the TB's
  • The cable end slips out of the tB pully real easy from below. You depress a spring-clip keeper and the end comes right out. Older oilheads needed the TB removed (!)according to my '98 Haynes manual
  • With the tank removed you can see on the right side where the main throttle cable goes under the ABS pump below the battery tray. That's where the cable box is that needs to slide out
  • You can see the crankcase breather hose being held down out of the way by a nylon strap tied to the centerstand. Just stretch it on down as you'll need the room to slide the box out. There is the bowden box on its way out.
  • You can see the main throttle cable running in above my pinky and attaching to the lower track on the sheave. The two upper cables attach to the top tracks and exit out opposite corners to the Throttle Bodies (TB's). The spring loaded cable running out the backside in the long square channel is the fast idle control cable.
  • check it out. The one that was replaced out at Wayne and Joes campout had alot of corrosion inside the box on the cable ends. This one was dusty but in pretty good shape.
  • My throttle cables were "sticky" feeling in operation . All I saw was some kinks in the cable to the TB on the right. The symptoms were slow to roll back on it's own from WFO and the fast idle wouldn't hold open.
